Species Ambassadors

ATLASea aims at sequencing reference genomes for marine species within the French Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Of particular interest are marine species of scientific, conservation, iconic, and economic importance. ATLASea values contributions of experts (“Ambassadors”) who can provide specimens, suggest individual species of interest, or propose larger projects that address specific research questions. Ambassadors have three routes available for contacting ATLASea, outlined below. All submissions will be reviewed by the ATLASea Species Selection Committee, which meets about once a month. Before using the forms, please bear in mind the following:

  • Anyone may submit a form, provided that the species of interest will be sampled in the French EEZ.
  • Sampling must strictly adhere to ATLASea Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). For example, this means that samples already stored in a freezer are not eligible.
  • Compliance with national and international sampling regulations is also required, as described in the ATLASea Statement.
  • Genome assemblies and annotations produced by ATLASea will be submitted to the European Nucleotide Archive and made publicly available upon completion. However, when justified, data may be embargoed for six months, extendable to a maximum of two years.
  • Questions marked with * are mandatory, but please answer as many optional questions as possible to aid the evaluation process.

Ambassadors may reach out to ATLASea through one of the following three options in order to:

  1. Propose 1-5 species for sequencing
If you have a few (1-5) species for which you may have access to specimen or that you would like to suggest for sampling and sequencing by ATLASea, please use this form.
  2. Propose more than 5 species for sequencing
If you wish like to propose a collection of more than 5 species for which you have access to specimens, or that you would like ATLASea to consider for sampling, please download, complete and send by e-mail this table, which contains the same set of questions as the interactive form above.
  3. Submit a Project for collaboration
If you have a larger project in mind, without necessarily a specific list of species but with a scientific question that requires further discussions, please fill this form to describe your project.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact ATLASea by e-mail.
